While the Love Commandos take a short winter break, news has reached Love Commandos HQ of something stirring in Somerset. It seems that Druidspear have appeared in disguise and that they now have a new website ready for launch on 11/02/2011.

The Love Commandos are saddened to note the passing of a Scottish songwriting genius. Gerry Rafferty, who died earlier this week after a long illness, was probably best known for writing and singing “Baker Street”, though his earlier work with Joe Egan in Stealers Wheel, included hits such as “Stuck in the Middle with You”. Know primarily for it’s emotive saxophone solo, played by Raphael Ravenscroft, “Baker Street”, which was recorded in 1978 and features on Raffery’s album “City to City”, is still regularly played on radio stations around the world.

The Love Commandos are saddened to note the passing of one of rocks finest, but often overlooked, drummers. Richie Hayward, founding member of Little Feat, gave forty years of service to rock music, pounding the skins for Robert Plant, Peter Frampton, John Cale and Bob Dylan amongst many others. Yet again the UK came last in the Eurovision song contest. This time around the song was from the stable of Pete Waterman and Michael Stock and no doubt was considered a sure fire hit by the UK selection committee. Sadly, though well performed, it sounded typically Stock, Aitken and Waterman and the rest of Europe seemed to agree. We humbly submit that the Love Commandos could produce a suitably interesting tune for next year’s Eurovision and would love to have the chance to submit one.
Interestingly Ireland fared little better finishing only two places above the UK. One wonders how much better they could have done had they chosen the Ronan Keating penned track performed by Justin Lee Collins. If there is any justice he’ll be performing for the UK next year – assuming of course that the Love Commandos aren’t successful!
Another rock musician has died this week. Paul Gray bassist with masked metal mavericks Slipknot was found dead in a Des Moines hotel on Tuesday. The cause of the 38-year-old’s death has yet to be determined though Des Moines police do not suspect foul play, according to news reports.
Paul Gray, you will be missed. The Love Commandos salute you.
